John was born in E. Los Angeles in 1942 to parents John and Elizabeth Montes. He married Susan and had two sons, Herman, John Jr., and a daughter Stephanie. John loved boxing his entire life and trained several boxing champions as well as his own two sons, Herman "The Kid" and John "Wito. John later remarried Rosemary Montes and gained his bonus daughter, Analisa. John was known for his jokes and funny stories. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. The love he had for his grand children was unexplainable. He cherished every moment that he had and planned weekend bike rides, beach days, and trips to the swap meet. John eventually joined the Santa Monica Police Department and was able to retire with his wife, Frances in Pahrump, NV. John was a fighter up until his last breath. He left this world with his daughter Stephanie by his side and although his life was cut short, his memory will live on forever. We all have memories and stories about him to last a lifetime.
